Zhe Zhang is selected as an honoree of the 2018 Blavatnik Regional Awards!
Zhe is one of two finalists awarded in the life sciences category. He used cryo-electron microscopy to determine the structure of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator, whose mutation is the cause of cystic fibrosis, a debilitating genetic disease. By solving the atomic resolution structures of the inactive and active forms of this chloride channel he has provided fundamental insight into how the channel works, and how mutations abrogate its function. These insights provide a roadmap for development of improved therapies for cystic fibrosis.
Congratulations, Zhe!
