LABORATORY OF VIROLOGY AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Dr. Scheel completed his PhD thesis in 2011 at Copenhagen Hepatitis C Program (CO-HEP), University of Copenhagen, Denmark, supervised by Professor Jens Bukh. The work had its basis in development of infectious cell culture systems for the major HCV genotypes. The mechanism of culture adaptation, the function of the HCV NS5A protein and the effect of neutralizing antibodies and viral inhibitors was studied in culture. Further, the function and pathogenesis of specific HCV isolates used for development of culture systems were studied in vivo. At the Center for the Study of Hepatitis C, Dr. Scheel focus on the molecular virology of HCV, including viral encoded RNA-binding proteins.
