Gisa Gerold, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Gerold received her Ph.D. in Biology and Biochemistry in the laboratory of Dr. Arturo Zychlinsky at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany. During her doctoral studies she investigated the sensing of bacteria by the innate immune system, specifically identifying two novel factors, vitronectin and integrin b3, required for the sensing of bacterial lipoproteins by Toll-like receptor 2. Since joining the Center for the Study of Hepatits C in March 2009, her research has focused on the cell biology of HCV entry into hepatocytes and the development of novel animals models for HCV. Dr. Gerold has received Postdoctoral Fellowships from the German Academy of Science Leopoldina and the Human Frontier Science Program.
