Edgar Charles, M.D.
Chief Clinical Scholar
Dr. Charles received his M.D. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL in 1999. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at New York University School of Medicine. Since joining the Center for the Study of Hepatitis C in July 2004, he has worked with Dr. Lynn Dustin, to investigate the immunopathogenesis of HCV-related B cell disorders such as mixed cryoglobulinemia and HCV-associated non-Hodgkin lymphoma. His work has focused on the identification of clonally expanded B cell subsets in HCV-infected individuals, as well as an elucidation of these B cells' autoreactive profiles. Additionally, he is recruiting HCV-infected and healthy volunteers into his clinical research study at Rockefeller University Hospital that is designed to characterize the transcriptional profiles of clonally expanded B cells in HCV patients.
