Clinical Lab

The Rockefeller University Clinical Lab for DEB Chromosome Breakage Test for Fanconi anemia closed in December of 2007. After 25 years of serving as a reference laboratory for the chromosomal breakage test (DEB) for diagnosis of Fanconi anemia, the Auerbach Laboratory at The Rockefeller University will no longer be able to offer this service. As such, NO NEW SAMPLES SHOULD BE SENT TO ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY FOR CLINICAL DEB TESTING.

While we are no longer accepting clinical samples, we are still dedicated to the research of Fanconi anemia. The International Fanconi Anemia Registry (IFAR) is still accepting new enrollments every day. While Dr. Auerbach continues to be a vital consultant to the IFAR, the Registry is now under the direction of Dr. Agata Smogorzewska in the Laboratory of Genome Maintenance. Her laboratory, in addition to managing the IFAR, is dedicated to studying the regulation and activity of the proteins known to be involved in the Fanconi anemia pathway and identifying factors that promote survival in Fanconi anemia cells in the setting of crosslink damage.

Therefore, if you have a patient that has a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of Fanconi anemia please contact our genetic counselor, Erica Sanborn at 212-327-8613 or Erica.Sanborn@rockefeller.edu, to discuss possible enrollment. Erica Sanborn is also available to help you receive results from testing which was done in our clinical laboratory between 5/1/82 and 12/21/07. Results from our Clinical Laboratory can be released to a health care professional with the proper release in place.

Thank you for your interest in our work on Fanconi anemia and we encourage you to visit our new lab at: http://lab.rockefeller.edu/smogorzewska/
