Eiko Nishiuchi
Research Assistant

Eiko received her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She was a recipient of the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and worked on surface modifications of mica for AFM protein imaging. She was also involved in a study of nanoparticle synthesis and their targeted delivery, which captivated her interest in biological research. Upon graduation, she worked as a research assistant at the same institution and studied gene therapy for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy for 2 years. She was accepted into a Ph.D. study program of Bio molecular Science and Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006. She studied a cleavage mechanism and potential signaling functions and of the C-term tail of polycystin-1, which is mutated in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease. Eiko joined the Rice Lab as a research assistant of Edgar Charles, M.D. in April 2011. She is thrilled to be involved in biological research once again while pursuing dance in NYC.
