Laboratory of DNA Replication

Michael O'Donnell
Professor; Investigator, HHMI

The goal is to discover underlying principles of DNA replication in the human and E. coli systems.

Several proteins work together as a machine to replicate chromosomes. We work in two systems, human and E. coli., whose replication apparatus appears to be conserved. Some of the actors are known, although the function of several essential proteins remain elusive. We plan to develop a complete description of the form and function of each gear of the entire replication machinery. Our additional goal is application of knowledge about human replication mechanisms to potential cures of the diseased state.
